Beliefs

The word “theology” comes from two Greek words, “theos” which means God and “logos” which means word, or simply put, “God’s word” or “words about God”.

These words describe who God is, what His character is like, and what His attributes are. Through the Word of God we can come to know and love God and discover who He calls us to be and what He calls us to do.

theology = words about God

The Scriptures

The Scriptures are inspired by God and declare His design and plan for people. The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error.
2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13
2 Peter 1:20-21
Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6
Proverbs 30:5

God

There is only One True God the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He exists eternally and is revealed in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God.
Genesis 1:1,26,27,3:22
Psalm 90:2
Matthew 28:19
1 Peter 1:2
2 Corinthians 13:14

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God the Son. As God’s Son, Jesus was both human and divine. He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus was born of a virgin and lived a sinless human life and offered Himself (took our place) as the only perfect sacrifice for sin by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days demonstrating His power and authority over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again.
Matthew 1:22, 23
Isaiah 9:6
John 1:1-5, 14:10-30
Hebrews 4:14-15
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Romans 1:3-4
Acts 1:9-11
1 Timothy 6:14-15
Titus 2:13

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their sins and draw them to the Savior, Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He empowers the Christian with spiritual life, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. The gift of the infilling of the Holy Spirit as is recorded in Acts 2, 8, 10, and 19, is available to every believer.
Acts 1:8
Acts 2:1-4
1 Corinthians 3:17
John 16:7-13,14:16-17
Galatians 5:25
1 Corinthians 2:12,3:16
Ephesians 1:13,5:18

People

People were created in the image of God to have fellowship with Him and they were designed, and are to be, like Him in character. You as a person are the supreme object of God’s creation. Though originally good, human persons willingly disobeyed God and sinned and became alienated in that relationship – ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual – into the world. As a result, we are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through our own efforts alone. God loves us and has done something to free us from sin and reunite us to Himself.
Genesis 1:27
Psalm 8:3-6
Isaiah 53:6a
Romans 3:23
Isaiah 59:1-2

Salvation

You matter to God! We believe that the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin. Every person, regardless of their past, can have restored fellowship and relationship with God through ‘salvation’ (the receiving of Christ and His offer of forgiveness for sin). Salvation is God’s free gift to us made possible by the life, death, buriel and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. We receive salvation by turning to Jesus and placing the whole of our trust in Him as the only Lord and Savior. We can never make up for our sins by self improvement or good works. No matter how bad you are, Jesus loves you and wants to forgive you and have a relationship with you. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith.
Romans 6:23
Ephesians 2:8-9
John 14:6, 1:2
Titus 3:5
Galatians 3:26
Romans 5:1, 10:9-10

Christian Life

As Christ followers we desire to draw closer to Jesus in conduct and character. Every Christian should live for Christ and not for himself. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, we become more like Him and become increasingly concerned with the things that He is concerned about. This progressive lifelong process enables the life and love of Christ to be presently demonstrated through us to lost and hurting humanity.
Galatians 2:20
Romans 12:1-2
Ephesians 2:1-10
Colossians 1:9-12

Eternity

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin in a place that the Bible calls, “the lake of fire”, or we will eternally exist with God through forgiveness and salvation in a place that the Bible calls, “Heaven”. The Bible states that “Hell” was not made for human persons but for the devil and his demons. It is not the will of God for you to go into eternity without placing your trust in Christ.
John 3:16, 14:17
Romans 6:23, 8:17-18
Revelation 20:15
1 Corinthians 2:7-9

The Church

The Church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the Church are those who, throughout time, have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world.
Matthew 16:18
Acts 20:28
Ephesians 5:25-27
1 Timothy 3:15
Colossians 1:18

Baptism, Communion, & Anointing with Oil

We believe and practice the ordinances of – (1) water baptism and (2) Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation. Both of these ordinances are for those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and are following Him. We also believe in praying for the sick and anointing them with oil in the name of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 28:19-20
Acts 8:36-39
I Corinthians 11:23-34
James 5:14-15

Praise & Worship

Jesus said that we are to worship God in Spirit and in truth. We want to worship God with all of our hearts and with all of the means revealed in the Bible, showing our love with expressive demonstration of thanksgiving, joy, and praise.
John 4:23
Psalm 150
Psalm 100
Matthew 22:37-38

Healing

We believe in divine healing of the sick which is provided for in Christ’s atonement (His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins).
Isaiah 53:1-6
I Peter 2:24
James 5:13-15

Blessed Hope

Jesus promised to return and gather His Church to be with Him. At His coming all believers who have died and those who are alive will be caught up to be with the Lord forever.
John 14:1-3
Acts 1:9-11
Titus 2:13
1 Corinthians 11:26

Final Judgment

The Bible declares that there will be a final judgment.
Revelation 20:12-15
John 5:28-29
Matthew 25:41
